Evaluation - Question Seven

Looking Back At Your Preliminary Task, What Do You Feel You Have Learnt
In The Progression From It To Full Product?

Thinking back to my preliminary I have observe many changes from it to my final media product, some of the differences may be as a result of the change in the products genre and therefore purpose. But also due to me acquiring new knowledge and skills regarding production. As a whole I believe my final product improved upon what I achieved with the preliminary

From the preliminary we used similar shot to our final production, however we developed how we conveyed messages via our shot selection. For example in the preliminary I used an establishing shot of the class room but in this shot but nothing other than a few characters and the setting are depicted in this shot, and there is no real sense of atmosphere in the scene. However in the final production we used more establishing shot, some with slight variations as to better get our message across. An example of this is when we used a quite lengthy as the teacher enters the classroom, this allows for the setting to be set and allow the audience to see the mood and reactions of characters before and after the teacher is present. As well as this we used establishing shot the were out of focus of the school exterior, which conventionally defeats the purpose of an establishing shot but in this circumstance it effectively convey the eerie and unclear aspect of the goings on with the school, especially when followed up by an in focus shot of warning sign.

We also improved upon our editing capabilities as we previously used Adobe After Effects but used Final Cut Pro for the final product. This is evident as in the final piece as the quality of our production significantly improved with the use of more advanced software allowing for more and better functions. For example we could add text to our final piece and change colouration and huts, capabilities that we previously did not have access to.

We also decided to exempt techniques that we used in the preliminary from the final product as we feel it would ever not be necessary to the production or comprise the feel of the final product, as thriller have a certain feel to them, which we tried to capture properly.

The preliminary also featured mistakes, a major example of one is when a member of the group leg was in frame during a shot when it shouldn't have been, this helped out final piece as we were determined not to have any more mistakes, so spent more time and care on all stages of the production as to monism use the risks of error

As a whole I feel that I have made a considerable amount of progress, in terms of editing, filming and planning out a production, from the time I made the preliminary footage when I had relatively no experience with any of the stages of production to mow having a more thorough understanding of media processes, how to convey messages through them and how to tailor media products to particular audiences and their needs.

Evaluation - Question Five

How Did You Attract/Address Your Audience?

The main way I attracted and addressed my audience was mainly through social media, the social media that I used mainly was SnapChat, Twitter and Instagram. I achieved this by posting pictures, video or text pertaining to my thriller opening, I created a hashtag for afterschoolhours to help promote the opening more effectively, this was very helpful to help capture our target audience as there are many 14 - 18 and 14 - 25 year olds on social media. When posting content on the social media platforms we used mainly pictures and text, but when using videos it was an effective way the show sneak peaks of the opening and therefore capture the audiences attention and then create a fan base that will want to watch the finished opening, if we were to create another opening the existing fan base may flock to the next media product based off of past experience alone

When producing the opening I took the audience into consideration as I made the main character relatable to the target audience, this will attract people to the opening as the will be able to feel a bond with the characters and have an interest in what will happen to them motivating them to watch the film in order to find out what happens. During production I also using suspense and mystery using simple and common things to deliver the require feeling of suspense for example the establishing shots of the school, out of focus, make the audience feel uneasy, especially when topped off with the keep clear sign which clearly conveys the danger and makes the audience wonder what is the danger and builds suspense. The opening also ends with a cliffhanger which builds more suspense and makes the audience want to find out what happens, this means the audience will be more interested and attracted to the film.
